HOW I WORK
My Approach
How I work
The relationship between us comes first. Research consistently shows that a strong therapeutic relationship is the biggest predictor of whether therapy actually helps — more than any specific technique or method. I'm LGBTQIA+ affirming, sex-positive, and anti-racist, and I recognize that the culture and systems we grow up in shape who we become. I bring a trauma-informed lens to our work, which means staying curious about resistance rather than pushing past it — if something feels hard to talk about, we'll get curious about that together, not force our way through it. I also stay mindful of my own biases, as an ongoing part of my own growth.
I take a holistic, integrative approach that addresses the mind, body, and spirit. I am direct, compassionate, and non-judgmental and believe you are the expert on your experience. I value your wisdom and enjoy a collaborative approach. I take an active engaging approach and offer feedback, while being flexible to accommodate each unique individual.
I draw on EMDR, IFS, Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal Theory, Existential Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and DBT, depending on what you need.
We'll work together to figure out what actually helps you, rather than fitting you into a single method. I believe small, steady changes can add up to a profoundly different place over time.
How I see healing happen
As you start to notice your feelings and patterns — and the beliefs behind them — you can begin to look at them with curiosity and compassion instead of judgment. That's often how you start to let go of pain that was never really yours to carry.
I believe therapy works best when it disrupts old, painful beliefs — things like "I'm not good enough," "I'm not safe," or "it's my fault" — and replaces them with a new, lived experience of truer ones: "I am enough," "I am safe."
I believe healing happens in the present, through feeling fully seen, accepted and supported as you are, so you can begin accepting all of yourself. Connecting with joy matters just as much as releasing pain, and I want you to have both. I'm not a blank slate therapist who just sits back and listens quietly — I'll share my own reactions at times, but the focus always stays on you.
Therapy Modalities
My Therapeutic Approaches
-
IFS
Internal Family Systems
A compassionate approach that helps you understand the different "parts" of you, like the protector, the critic, or the part carrying old pain, and guides you back to your calm, core Self. -
Somatic
POLYVAGAL THEORY & SOMATIC EXPERIENCING
Body-based approaches that work with your nervous system first. You'll learn to recognize your own cues of safety and danger, and your body can learn that safety is possible again. -
Existential
EXISTENTIAL THERAPY
Existential therapy explores the bigger questions underneath the day-to-day struggles — questions about meaning, freedom, identity, connection, and mortality. -
DBT
DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOUR THERAPY
A skills-based therapy designed to help individuals regulate intense emotions and improve relationships. -
Psychodynamic
PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY
Explores how early relationships and experiences shape the way you think, feel, and relate today. It helps you understand not just what you do, but why. -
EMDR
EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITISATION & REPROCESSING
A structured therapy used to help individuals heal from traumatic or distressing memories - through guided eye movements and bilateral stimulation.
