SOMATIC THERAPY
Somatic Therapy in Los Angeles
You can understand exactly why you feel anxious and still not be able to make it stop. That's because trauma and stress don't just live in your thoughts. They live in your nervous system. Somatic therapy works with your body first, so healing can happen on a deeper level.
WHAT IS IT?
What Is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy is a body-based, bottom-up approach to healing. I draw from Polyvagal Theory and Somatic Experiencing. Instead of only talking through what happened, we build awareness of what's happening in your body right now, moment to moment.
THE PROCESS
How Somatic Therapy Works
Nervous system awareness. You learn to recognize your own cues of safety and danger, often before you're consciously aware of them.
Noticing patterns as they happen. You start to catch fight, flight, freeze, or fawn responses in real time, not just understand them afterward.
Teaching your body safety again. Through repeated, felt experiences, your nervous system gently learns that it's safe to settle.
Your body as a doorway. Breath, posture, and sensation become tools for healing, which is especially helpful when talking alone hasn't been enough.
Somatic therapy can help if you often feel on guard, hypervigilant, or unable to relax. It can also help if you tend to go numb or shut down, feel disconnected from your body, or have trouble naming what you feel. It's a natural fit for trauma, anxiety, panic, and chronic stress.
We'll move slowly and gently. I might invite you to notice your breath, the sensations in your body, or what shifts when you feel safe versus stressed. You're always in control of how much you explore.
